That a career in networking

OMG, I wanted someone to answer that question for me so badly when I first started. Individuals who read my post about my exam (https://learningnetwork.cisco.com/thread/63767) and career journey (https://learningnetwork.cisco.com/thread/63768) with Cisco have requested information about what I do as a Network Engineer. I am sure that the job role varies a little based on the type of company you work for. As for me, I work for a SP. I would like to give you some insight into what I do as a Network Engineer in my company, how Cisco certs helped me, how the job helped me with certs, and how it expanded my vision. All while being a little vague and general because a lot of information about our network and how it is managed is confidential.

At the same time, I have been “‘writing” this post for a week now because I am so busy with work and studies for CCNP Route. So this will end up as a series of posts. I will touch on some things related to Cisco’s PPDIOO Methodology and how that CCNP topic has applied to my job role in addition to some general information.

JOB OVERVIEW

In general, my team takes designs created by architects, planners and salespeople and makes changes to the network topology based on issues like traffic congestion, preventative maintenance, necessary infrastructure upgrades, customer issues, new product offerings, etc.
